Books

Canada doesn't have a large Spanish-speaking population, especially compared to the States. It is easy to find French books, and I can even find Mandarin books in Toronto stores, but Spanish books are hard to come by. I love buying the kids books, but usually have to order them off Amazon and pay to have them shipped.

Recently, while visiting a friend in Indiana, we were in Barnes & Noble and I stumbled across a Spanish books section. I thought of the kids, and picked them each up a book for a total of only $23! That's crazy! Buying and having 3 books shipped to Canada usually costs me closer to $40, so I was thrilled.

After some deliberation, for Andrielis I got the first Harry Potter book, for Andy I got The Mouse and the Motorcycle and for Yoandi I got Captain Underpants. Captain Underpants was the one I couldn't decide on, but the other ones seemed too girly for him, and I figured he would find it funny. In the English books the grammer is purposely really poor, but that didn't appear to be the case in the Spanish version. Last time I sent books, Sonia told me that Yoandi had all his friends over reading together... so cute!

Literacy is something all the kids are behind on. They are able to read and write now, but they struggle with grammer and with spelling. I am really hoping that having a stock of books at home will help with this. We'll see!
